UPDATED: Atlas the Greyhound Caught at Hopkins School

Updated May 25 10:50 a.m.: Atlas was captured this morning on the softball field near the Hopkins School where he spent the night.

"He's skinnier than when he got out, but he's eating well," Coleman said. "All's well that ends well."

Coleman thanked the volunteers that helped catch Atlas over the past four days.

Update May 24 5:30 p.m.: Atlas is still on the loose, but has apparently stayed in the Saddle Hill area. Here's what Louise Coleman said to Patch in an email.

"A concerned neighbor has offered to let us set up a Have - A - Heart trap on his property close to where Atlas has been seen several times........this is near the Duck Pond on Saddle Hill Road........many of the neighbors have been really helpful.  One of our lost dog finders has a game camera so that has also been set up........if Atlas - or any other moving object - goes near the trap they will be filmed.  It is infra red so night shots also are recorded.If anyone is interested they can follow our efforts to find this frightened,hungry dog on Greyhound Friends FB page...............Greyhound Friends, Inc. on FB"

Original Post: Atlas, a young, 2-year-old greyhound, went over the fence at adoption kennel Sunday night. He had just been returned from foster care, as he had been acting out with the other dogs in the household.

According to Louise Coleman of Greyhound Friends, Atlas wasn't a race dog like most of the greyhounds the shelter takes in.

"When you get a race dog they generally stay in the same area, but because Atlas wasn't trained like that he might be more likely to roam, especially if we can't feed him soon."

Coleman said there were several sightings of Atlas on Saddle Hill Road Sunday night and Monday, but there haven't been any reports today.

"We hope he found a band or a shed that was left open where he will be able to get out of the rain," Coleman said. "We're sure we'll find him; we always find them."

Julie Ford commented on our Facebook and said that she had seen Atlas near her home on Sunday.

"I have a female rottie in heat and he did stop about 15 feet away and checked us out? He ran when the volunteer came out of the woods looking for him, he was so spooked," Ford said.
