Barn Burner to Help Kamitian Field Sports Facility

The Holliston Athletic Boosters Association is hoping you will have a hootin' good time while supporting their endeavor to build a new ticket booth, snack stand and bathroom facility at the high school athletic fields.

Here's a situation many residents of Holliston have encountered while cheering for the panthers at the high school: it's halftime and you need to use the restroom, but the closest one is inside the school and they don't allow re-entry to the games.

This one also may be familiar: your child wants to go get a snack but the concession stand is almost out of sight so you need to walk over with them.

Well, the Holliston Athletic Boosters Association has a solution and they need your help to make it a reality.

The boosters are hoping to build a new $75,000 facility at the entrance to the main field and they expect it to be ready for the fall sports season.

"It feels like a real community effort," Patty Osten said. "Many local businesses, clubs and residents are coming together to make this dream a reality.

Osten said the new building will contain ticket booths, a new concession stand, storage space for field equipment and eventually restrooms.

Phase one, the construction of the building, is almost complete but phase 2, the installation of running water and a septic system, is still $30,000 away.

On May 10 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. HABA will be hosting a Barn Burner and Bar-B-Q party at the Holliston Historical Society barn to celebrate the groundbreaking and begin fundraising for phase two of the project.

Osten said she hopes the plumbing can be done for the spring sports season, but the construction can't begin until zoning laws are changed to allow the use of a sealed septic unit.

Holliston's own Hillbilly Pop will be performing at the event and Casey's will be catering the event with their barbecue menu. In addition, anyone who wears cowboy boots, a cowboy hat or a bandana will get one free drink at the cash bar.

Tickets are available for $45 online or by mailing a check with your name and email address to HABA BB&BBQ, 10 Greenview Drive.
