Sign up for "Breaking News" to receive the election results as soon as they are available.
Today is the day the Town of Milford decides the fate of Foxwoods Massachusetts.
The polls will close at 8 p.m. and the results will be announced on Patch shortly thereafter. Milford Cable Television will begin its live coverage of the election results at 7 p.m. from Milford Town Hall.
Those opposed to the casino -- including the MetroWest Anti-Casino Coalition made up of the towns of Holliston, Hopkinton, Medway and Ashland -- say it would lower property values, increase crime and traffic, and would create a strain on local resources for which Hopkinton would not receive any compensation.
Those in favor of the casino say it would bring millions of tourists to the area each year which would be good for business and would improve the local economy.
Who can vote? Only registered voters in Milford. Milford has 17,400 people registered for this special election.
The ballot is a single-question that will ask voters if they want to approve the host community agreement with Milford. A summary of the host community agreement is included, so the ballot is actually a two-page document. It can be found here.
Polls close at 8 p.m. Results will be released at Milford Town Hall. [Foxwoods Massachusetts supporters and development team members will be at the Crystal Room, waiting on results. Casino Free Milford, which is opposed to the casino, will be at PiNZ.]
