Greyhound Friends Open House Event on Nov. 3

On Sunday, Nov. 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Greyhound Friends will hold a hound open house at their kennel at 167 Saddle Hill Road in Hopkinton.

The event is an opportunity for the public to meet both hounds who have been adopted and hounds at the shelter waiting for their forever homes. 

Greyhound Friends’ primary focus remains on caring for and adopting greyhounds into loving homes but has recently expanded their services to include other breeds.

The majority of the crosses and hounds come from Midwestern states, were picked up as strays, and had little chance of adoption at high-kill shelters in that region. As greyhound racing dwindles in this country, some greyhounds end up with hunters who want to breed them with hunting dogs to make faster hunting dogs or sled dogs. Shelters in the Midwest are flooded with dogs and rescue officials asked GreyhoundFriends to take the dogs and help adopt them into permanent homes. 

Refreshments will be served and Martha Palermo of New Beginnings Dog Training will be on hand to demonstrate training methods used with hounds at our adoption kennel. Greyhound Friends also has a large exercise field where visitors can play with dogs they are interested in adopting.
