Hopkinton High Named Ranked Number Three in Massachusetts

In the annual report released by US News & World Report  was picked as the third best public school in Massachusetts and ranked number 89 nationally.

According to the website the 1,021 students in the high school have a 94 percent English proficiency and a 95 percent proficiency in math.

"Hopkinton High School is ranked 3rd within Massachusetts. Students have the opportunity to take Advanced Placement coursework and exams. The AP participation rate at Hopkinton High School is 82 percent. The student body makeup is 50 percent male and 50 percent female, and the total minority enrollment is 4 percent. Hopkinton High School is the only high school in the Hopkinton," the overview says.

Chairman of the  Jean Bertschmann said she is excited that the school was recognized so highly, especially because this is the second time in two years. She said great planning and a strong faculty across the district are what make the schools so strong.

"Former Superintendent Phelan had the foresight to implement a great strategic plan, the district also has faculty that know what good instruction looks like and can plan a good curriculum," Bertschmann said.

Bertschmann also recognized that the most important part of planning is rolling with the changes and adjusting to new requirements.

"We are in the process of refreshing our strategic plan, it’s our roadmap and we’ve accomplished a lot in there but there are some plans that need to be refreshed because things have changed," she said.

Last year Newsweek Magazine ranked Hopkinton as the number 95 high school in the country and in 2009 Hopkinton was ranked by Money Magazine as the number 19 best place to live in the country.

"It's great that we're getting recognized once, but this is the second year in a row which is a nice trend," Bertschmann said.
