Hopkinton Public Schools Announces New Administrators

The district will start the school year with a new assistant superintendent, HMS principal and an interim high school athletic director

HOPKINTON, MA - Carol Cavanaugh, the superintendent of the Hopkinton Public Schools, announced on Friday the district has hired three new administrators for the upcoming school year.

Jeffrey LaBroad has been named as the incoming assistant superintendent. He replaces Jen Parson, who left the position to become the superintendent in Plainville last month.

Cavanaugh described him as a "seasoned educator" who most recently served as the principal of Sudbury's Josiah Haynes Elementary School. LaBroad holds three degrees from Boston College and began his career as a grade four teacher.

Matthew Lefebvre is the new principal of Hopkinton Middle School. Lefebvre has served Westborough High School as its assistant principal for the past decade, having begun his career as a music educator. He will be hosting listening tours for faculty and families to connect with the community over the summer.

"I am looking forward to walking into Hopkinton Middle School with a genuine curiosity for what makes the school a special place," he said on Monday evening, noting his desire to meet and welcome all students "is of the utmost importance."

"That’s why I took this position," Lefebvre shared. "Middle school is such a special time in the life of a learner, and Hopkinton sure seems to be providing them with a caring space to develop. Focusing on this unique time in their lives, rather than simply treating it as a stepping stone to high school, will help us set up students for both academic success and social growth."

Lefebvre's predecessor, Alan Keller, served for 12 years at the helm of the middle school. He left the position to become the assistant superintendent for the Auburn Public Schools.

Kiely Murray, the new interim athletic director, has a depth of experience in Hopkinton, serving previously for 13 years as a school counselor and coach in town. A registered athletic administrator with an educational background in organizational management, counseling psychology, and educational leadership, Cavanaugh described her as being "particularly passionate about mental performance and educational athletics."

"She is eager to continue supporting student-athletes from a new vantage point and to continue the strong tradition of Hiller athletics," Cavanaugh added.

Murray added that she has been part of the athletic department at Westborough since 2009 as a coach in the volleyball program.

"That’s been a big part of my coaching journey," she explained.

Rich Cormier, who previously held this position, left to pursue a career outside of education.

There also are two vacancies still open in what has been a year of transition in the department as well as on the School Committee, where two new members were elected this spring.

Chris Ocampo, the middle school's assistant principal for the past two years, left his role to become the assistant principal at Acton-Boxborough High School. He served in several capacities in the Framingham Public Schools during the previous decade. Healso ran in April's Boston Marathon in support of the Hopkinton Freedom Team, a group that supports efforts toward racial and social equity.

There is also an opening for an assitant principal at the Elmwood Elementary School, which serves grades two and three.
