Milford Opponents to Casino Meet, Plan Next Steps

The opponents of a Milford casino proposal met this week to organize their efforts.

The opposition to a Milford casino is gaining organization and people, and beginning a campaign to reach potential voters.

Although opponents to the casino project live in several towns, including Milford, only Milford voters will have a direct say in whether the casino proposal moves forward.

The Casino Free Milford group held a private, organizational meeting at Milford Town Hall on Wednesday, according to a release from the organization.

The group intially met in a public session last month, but this time held a members-only meeting. According to a written summary distributed to media following the meeting, the crowd was standing-room size.

"The purpose of the meeting was for Milford residents to come together and organize anti-casino efforts in an orderly and efficient fashion," the statement said. "Multiple committees were formed each with a leader and several members.  Each committee will meet separately and work towards the goal of defeating a proposed casino in Milford. CasinoFreeMilford will help to educate Milford residents on the impacts of a casino."
