Police Log: Phone Scam, Sickly Raccoon

The following information was supplied by the Hopkinton Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Thursday, May 17

2:37 a.m.: officers assisted the Southborough Police Department with the report of two people in a backyard near Southville Road. They also assisted at the train station after two people ran in to the woods.

7:08 a.m.: An officer checked a vehicle parked on the road on Briarcliff Drive. The officer located the operator who was a high school student.

8:20 a.m.: A caller reported that the driver’s side window of their car was smashed overnight on Spring Street. It did not appear as if anything was stolen.

10:44 a.m.: An officer installed a car seat.

11:14 a.m.: A caller reported a minor crash on South Street. Both cars were towed but no injuries were reported.

11:25 a.m.: Several callers reported a white pick-up truck operating erratically, tailgating and passing illegally on Wood Street. Officers were unable to locate the vehicle.

4:25 p.m.: A person reported a possibly drunk male staggering along Wild Road with a bicycle.

8:26 p.m.: A person called from Hayden Rowe Street to report that someone attempted to break in to his car while he was in it.

9:06 p.m.: A caller wished to report ongoing gunfire at the Woodville Rod and Gun Club. When the officer checked the range it was quiet.

10:20 p.m.: An officer checked a report of an underage drinking party on Sterling Drive.

10:54 p.m.: A motorist reported a couple acting suspiciously on Granite Street.

11:10 p.m.: An officer checked vehicles part at the tennis courts near the High School. The vehicles may have been related to the party on Sterling Drive.

Friday, May 18

12:38 a.m.: A caller reported difficulty with his vehicle on Cedar Street.

3:52 a.m.: An officer checked a car parked on West Main Street.

7:27 a.m.: A caller reported that the business across the street on Commonwealth Avenue made a load banging noise at 6:45 a.m.

10:48 a.m.: The DPW reported that one of their vehicles was disabled on Cedar Street.

11:43 a.m.: An officer assisted with a minor crash on Hayden Rowe Street.

3:43 p.m.: A caller reported that she believed there was a person on a property where he was not supposed to be. After checking the scene the officer learned that the man in question was not there.

3:51 p.m.: A caller reported hearing gunshots near Connelly Hill. An officer responded and checked with a construction foreman in the area who did not report hearing anything.

6:38 p.m.: A caller reported that there was a motorcycle passing in a no passing zone on Hayden Rowe Street. The caller reported that the biker pulled in to a business.

6:57 p.m.: A caller reported a dangerous gap in the steel plates in the road on West Main Street. An officer responded and confirmed the issue. The officer assisted the DPW with correcting the issue.

8:23 p.m.: A caller reported heavy equipment working on Valleywood Road in violation of the town’s bylaws. An officer responded and issued a citation for the violation.

8:38 p.m.: An officer assisted the Hopkinton Fire Department and the Massachusetts State Police with a small car fire on route 495.

8:41 p.m.: An officer checked a car on Hayden Rowe Street that belonged to a person locking up a business for the night.

9:06 p.m.: A caller reported a sickly looking raccoon on the front lawn. Animal Control was contacted and handled the situation.

Saturday, May 19

12:48 a.m.: A caller reported a loud motorcycle driving around the Lakeshore Drive neighborhood.

12:50 a.m.: An officer checked a car on Rafferty Road.

2:38 a.m.: An officer checked a car on Clinton Street.

5:15 a.m.: A 911 caller reported a crash on Wood Street with a person trapped inside. responded with the Jaws of Life. The operator was transported to the hospital.

10:10 a.m.: A 911 caller from Lakeshore Drive reported that a motorcycle driver had hit a rock and flipped over. When an officer and an ambulance arrived the biker was conscious and refused medical treatment.

1:37 p.m.: An officer spoke to a person who went in to the station to report a domestic incident on Elm Street.

5:20 p.m.: A caller reported that a cat was hit by a car on Fruit Street and was injured. was notified.

9:17 p.m.: Several callers reported a person having a campfire on the beach on Lakeshore Drive. An officer responded and asked for backup. Two people were transported from the scene and complaint applications were filed for several minors in possession of alcohol and trespassing.

10:11 p.m.: An officer checked a car on Hayden Rowe Street and sent the people on their way.

10:30 p.m.: A caller reported to youths walking down Ash Street and acting suspicious. An officer spoke to the two people who said they were lost looking for a friend’s house.

Sunday, May 20

12:39 a.m.: An officer checked a motor vehicle on Fruit Street.

8:31 a.m.: A developer working on Wedgewood Drive reported some vandalism including spray paint on a window and on a front-end-loader.

9:30 a.m.: An officer assisted another police department.

10:32 a.m.: A person on South Street reported a tree on the wire on Purchase Street in Milford near the town line.

11:40 a.m.: A caller reported ATVs between North Street and Fruit Street. An officer checked the area but could not hear the disturbance.

12:02 p.m.: A caller reported that they received a suspicious phone call from someone claiming to be from the state police. The person was allegedly asking for donations on behalf of the Hopkinton Police Department and their families. A donation was not made, The caller reported the person had a southern accent and was very friendly and compassionate.  The call asking for donations came from a blocked number.

1:36 p.m.: A caller reported that a white 1980s Camaro turned on to Hayden Rowe Street at a high rate of speed.

2:13 p.m.: A caller reported an alarm at the sewer plant on South Street. The sewer department was notified.

6:22 p.m.: A 911 caller reported that their vehicle was broken in to on Haven Street. The incident occurred in Milford.

6:23 p.m.: A caller reported a group of college students going door to door on Ray Street asking for a place to stay during the summer.

8:39 p.m.: A caller reported a loud party on Church Street. The homeowner turned the music down.

8:46 p.m.: Officers responded to a woman who flagged them down on Church Street after her vehicle had been broke in to.

9:25 p.m.: A security company reported a suspicious vehicle on South Street.

9:55 p.m.: An officer checked a person on Main Street.

10:05 p.m.: An officer reported performing field sobriety tests on Cedar Street.
