MassDOT to Hold Low-Number License Plate Lottery at New Boston RMV Branch

The new branch at Haymarket Center is set to open in September.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation plans to hold its annual low-number license plate lottery drawing early next month at the new Boston branch of the state Registry of Motor Vehicles at Haymarket Center, MassDOT announced Thursday.

The lottery will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 10, while the branch, located at 136 Blackstone St. in Boston, is currently set to open its doors on Monday, Sept. 15.

“As we move our operations to a new Boston neighborhood next month, we are offering the public the opportunity to attend the plate drawing and get a sneak-peek at our new branch, Haymarket Center,” Celia Blue, MassDOT Registrar of Motor Vehicles, said in a statement.

The Boston RMV branch was previously located on Washington Street in Boston’s Chinatown neighborhood; the new Haymarket Center will be located adjacent to the MBTA’s Haymarket Station that serves the Green and Orange lines, as well as 10 bus routes.

The new branch, meanwhile, will feature an E-ZPass Service Customer Center, enhanced privacy during customer transactions and hearings and consolidated licensing and registration counters, MassDOT said.

The RMV will be located on the second and third floors of Haymarket Center, while the Boston Public Market will occupy the first floor.

More than 6,600 applications were received for the plate lottery, and this year the number “351” is included in the drawing, signifying the number of cities and towns within Massachusetts.
