Letter: Park With Courtesy in Jamaica Plain

One JP resident is asking that drivers park their cars with others in mind.

The following is a letter to the editor submitted by Jamaica Plain resident Karen E. Logue:

I am writing to remind residents of JP to be considerate neighbors.  For the most part, people here tend to neighborly and community oriented.  There are some exceptions that I would like to address.

Street Parking:  Today someone pulled into the space behind me and parked their car up against my rear bumper. They are 2 feet from the curb and have 8 free feet behind them.  There are several open spots available 2 cars in front of me but they chose to block me in so that I can’t leave.

After the blizzard, neighbors worked hard to dig their cars out.  I have seen several people remove space savers and take people’s spots.  This is when we were still allowed to save spaces.  The people got out of their cars, looked around and hurried quickly away.

Remember to park no more than a foot from the curb.  Some of the 2 way streets are very narrow and it is hard to pass other cars driving in the opposite direction when there are no snow banks.

I live near a T stop and people from other areas of JP drive to my neighborhood to park for the day and take the T into work.   It seems that these are the people who are being inconsiderate with their parking.

Dog Owners:  Please remember to clean up after your dogs.  Some people look around to see if anyone is watching and then leave without cleaning up the mess.  I have even seen people go through the motions of pretending to pick up the mess and just leave it there.  If you can’t be a responsible dog owner then you shouldn’t have one.

Thank you to the thoughtful neighbors in JP for making it a great place to live.  To the others, I am watching you.

Sincerely,

Karen E. Logue
