Minuteman Tech Launches Adult Program With Lowe's Grant

Minuteman Technical Institute launched a SkillsUSA Chapter for adult learners with a Lowe's grant.

LEXINGTON, MA — Lowe’s Home Improvement and SkillsUSA, an organization dedicated to advancing career and technical education, have awarded Minuteman Technical Institute $1,000 worth of educational materials to launch its own SkillsUSA chapter, which will provide adult students learning opportunities to help fill the nation’s skills gap.

Minuteman Technical Institute (MTI) is the adult workforce training division of Minuteman Regional Vocational Technical High School in Lexington. MTI’s allocation is from a $100,000 grant from Lowe’s to 100 eligible chapters.

Grants are for SkillsUSA chapters began in 2018 and are designed to provide teachers with more resources to support student-led learning through the SkillsUSA framework.

Each school will receive 25 unique education products designed to guide teachers on SkillsUSA integration, ranging from activity guides to meeting resources, classroom posters and more. The materials are centered on student-led development of personal skills, workplace skills and technical skills grounded in academics, so every member has an opportunity for career success.

“It is thrilling to see new SkillsUSA programs receive these chapter resources,” said SkillsUSA executive director Chelle Travis. “These grants from Lowe’s remove financial barriers to excellence and ensure that new chapters start off on the right foot, armed with quality classroom resources for the betterment of our teachers and students.”

SkillsUSA has partnered with Lowe’s for more than 14 years on a variety of education programs within career and technical education.

“We are appreciative of the support to assist us in launching our own SkillsUSA chapter for Minuteman Technical Institute,” said the institute’s executive director, Dr. Nancy Houle. “SkillsUSA has a long and successful history of providing opportunities for Minuteman High School students. We are excited to extend these opportunities to our adult students at Minuteman Technical Institute.”
