A release from the Lynnfield Catholic Collaborative:

LYNNFIELD, Ma. - Peg Sallade, Substance Use Prevention Coordinator for A Healthy Lynnfield, led an interactive discussion Saturday at Our Lady of the Assumption Church on the health and wellness benefits of ministry, prayer, and spirituality. This presentation was part of the Lynnfield Catholic Collaborative's "Holistic Health Speaker Series”.

Sallade explained that statistics have shown that those who volunteer or are engaged in ministry at least 100 hours per year experience several long-term health benefits, including a longer life expectancy, greater functional abilities as they age, lower rates of depression, and stronger social networks. She also noted that the belief and dedication to God (or a higher power) translates into greater feelings of well-being and less stress reactivity which means a healthier, happier life in general.
