City officials recently joined Malden teens for an unveiling of a revamped basketball court at Coytemore Lea Park.
Mayor Gary Christenson, Ward 4 Councillor Jim Nestor and Department of Public Works Director Bob Knox and a group of teens attended the unveiling of the newly constructed basketball court at the park, according to a city press statement.
During one of the mayor’s Safety Awareness meetings held at the Malden Teen Enrichment Center in the spring, Malden student Chuck Taylor told Christenson that the basketball court at Coytemore Lea were uneven and that the nets were torn, according to the statement. The teen hoped to see some improvements to the courts by the end of the summer.
“The new court and backboards at the park are a substantial and noticeable improvement,” Nestor said in the statement. “This park is one of, if not the most utilized parks in the City and I’m hoping the new court will attract even more kids to discover this gem. I thank Mayor Christenson and DPW Director Bob Knox for all of their hard work and support of this project.”
Christenson lauded Taylor for bringing the condition of the park to the city’s attention. “I am happy that we were able to make these improvements so that kids and families in this neighborhood can continue to use the court and enjoy this park,” said the mayor in the statement.
