Malden Police are looking for the public's help in nabbing two muggers who held up a couple near Maple and Hawthorne streets Tuesday night. The suspects may have shed some clothing and a gun as they ran from the scene.

The robbery occurred at 10 p.m. last night, according to Lt. Marc Gatcomb.

"A man and woman were held up at gunpoint and ordered to turn over their wallet and purse," he said.

There were two hoodies, one light and one dark, according to Gatcomb. Police believe the suspects ditched the clothing—and possibly the gun—in the area of Dexter, Maple, Cedar and Hawthorne Streets.

If you find the sweatshirts, a gun or anything else that could be related to the crime, contact the MPD detectives' bureau at 781-397-7181.

Another mugging was reported nearly an hour and a half later on Starbird Street. In that incidence a man was shot in the foot after refusing to empty his pockets.

The shooting was Malden's fourth in just over two months, following an August 25 incident on Beach Street and August 3 and 16 incidents on Salem Street.
