Election 2020: Malden Voter Guide

Everything you need to know about early voting, mail-in voting and in-person voting in Malden for the election Nov. 3.

MALDEN, MA — Voters in Malden will head to the polls Tuesday, Nov. 3, for the 2020 general election.

In addition to the presidential and congressional races, there are several key races at the state and local level, as well as two ballot questions. Voting will be different this year thanks to rules approved to expand early and mail-in voting in light of the coronavirus pandemic.

The deadline to register to vote is Oct. 24. You can check your voting status on the Secretary of State's website, where you can also find your polling place.

General Election Vote in Person

If you wish to vote in the General Election in person, please visit your normal poling location on Tuesday, Nov. 3 between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Vote by Mail

Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, the Massachusetts legislature has approved no-excuse Vote By Mail for all 2020 elections. Complete the application and mail, email, or bring it to the Elections Department, and once ballots are ready we will mail you one to complete. Residents have the option to track the status of their ballots to see if they have been mailed or received.

For November 3 General Election ballots, the application to Vote By Mail must arrive by Oct. 28. Ballots need to be returned to the clerk’s office by the time polls close at 8 p.m. on election night. Ballots received after 8 p.m. on Nov. 3 will not be counted.

All 2020 Vote By Mail ballot packages will include a pre-addressed, postage prepaid return envelope for you to use to return to this office. Ballots may also be hand delivered to drop boxes located in front of City Hall at 215 Pleasant Street, the Police Station at 800 Eastern Avenue, and at the Senior Center Auditorium at 7 Washington Street during Early Voting hours in October.

Early Voting in Person

In-person early voting for the General Election will be held October 17-30 at the Senior Community Center located at 7 Washington Street during the following hours:

Daily Schedule

  • Monday: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM
  • Tuesday: 8:00 AM - 7:00 PM
  • Wednesday: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM
  • Thursday: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM
  • Friday: 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM
  • Saturday: 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM
  • Sunday: 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Absentee Voting

Absentee ballots must be requested in writing at least 4 business days before Election Day. Applications are available online, but any written request is acceptable if it has your signature on it, or the signature of a member of your family who has making the request on your behalf. Or you may visit the Secretary of State's new Vote By Mail portal to apply electronically.

Applications can be submitted by mail, email, or by fax to 781-388-0610. Applications may be sent as PDFs or JPEG's so long as they contain wet signatures made by pen, mouse, stylus, or finger. Typed signatures are not acceptable.

Need an Accommodation Due to a Disability

If you need an accommodation due to a disability, please visit the State's Accessible Electronic Vote by Mail page. This system allows voters with disabilities to receive their ballot electronically, mark their ballot privately and independently using their own assistive technology, print their marked ballot, and mail or hand-deliver it to their local election official to be counted. The law requires all ballots must be printed and does not allow for ballots of this manner to be returned electronically.
