Gronk Surprises Fans At Stop & Shop, Spikes Watermelon

MALDEN, MA — We all know Gronk delivers. Well, Saturday he was in town doing just that. Former Patriots star Rob Gronkowski surprised customers at the Stop & Shop by hand-delivering their online grocery orders to their cars. Who better to protect fragile eggs and lift heavy milk cartons? He even Gronk-spiked a watermelon, apparently. Why? Because he's Gronk.

The surprise comes as a bit of a publicity stunt for Stop & Shop, which just launched same-day online pick-up for Peapod orders at 10 of its stores in Massachusetts and eight in Rhode Island.

• Providence, RI (Branch Ave.)
• Smithfield, RI

The idea is it will be convenient way to shop, with pickup available in as little as four hours.

"We plan to roll out 175 of these ‘click-and-collect’ locations by the end of the year," said Stop & Shop President Mark McGowan in a statement. "We’re excited to offer our customers the convenience of shopping online for the all the products available at their local store, which they can now pick-up in just a few hours."

No word on how many of those will be hand-delivered by Gronk.
