Malden Fun Run Raises $1.6K For Local Nonprofit
Organizers beat their fundraising goal to benefit Bread of Life in Malden.
MALDEN, MA — A 5K fun run and kids dash event in Malden earlier this month raised roughly $1,600 to help combat food insecurity, City Councilor Amanda Linehan announced on Monday of last week.
The money will now go to the Malden-based Bread of Life, which aims to provide free food to struggling or disadvantaged families, individuals, youth and seniors in communities north of Boston.
The run on Nov. 20 was a creation of Run Club of Malden. Dubbed “Wobble Before you Gobble,” it saw participants navigate a route that began and ended at the old Malden District Court facility on Summer Street.

All proceeds from the event were scheduled to go to Bread of Life. Organizers also set up an on-site collection bin for food donations.
Event organizers initially eyed a $1,000 fundraising goal, as noted by Linehan. They beat that mark with their $1,600 total.

Linehan said the run ultimately drew 67 registrants.
As Bread of Life celebrates this recent boost, the organization is also in the process of a larger building project to create a new home facility in Malden.
Crews began demolition work in September on an existing building on Eastern Avenue where Bread of Life is envisioning its new home.
That new facility, boasting additional operation space, among other things, is expected to be complete at some point next fall.
