Malden Historical Site Becomes Heritage Center

The location is the birthplace of an 18th-century Burmese missionary.

MALDEN, MA — The city has dedicated a location after an internationally-important historical figure.

The house at 145 Main St. has officially been named as the Adoniram Judson Heritage Center. Judson was born at the home in 1788 before he led a long career as a foreign missionary. Judson sailed to the eastern part of the world at the age of 25. He and his wife, Ann, established many Baptist churches in the Asian country of Burma. In addition, the couple also spent years translating the Bible into Burmese while simultaneously creating the first Burmese-English dictionary.

The property was recently purchased by the Adoniram Judson Heritage Foundation. In addition to be Judson’s birthplace, it was also Malden’s first meeting house known as The Parsonage. The home is the city’s oldest property, being first built in 1651.
