MALDEN, MA — The city celebrated Neurodiverse youth and families this past weekend. The Salemwood School on 529 Salem St. was the host of Bright Minds, Quiet Spaces: A Sensory-Friendly Celebration.

Malden’s Recreation Department, Police Department, and Disabilities Commission all contributed to making the event a reality. Attendees could comfortably connect with each other while enjoying hands-on sensory activities, music-free zones, and pizza.

The city’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Coordinator Kashawna Harling said the event was especially important for her as she is the parent of a neurodivergent child.

“I’m so grateful for the incredible turnout and our community's support. Bright Minds, Quiet Spaces was more than an event; it reflected what inclusion can look like when we lead with empathy and intention,” Harling said.
