Malden Improvises Recycling Option As Trash Strike Continues
The city announced that trash and recycling pickup will not take place for the rest of the week.
MALDEN, MA — The city announced Wednesday that all trash and recycling pickup for the remainder of the week will be postponed as Republic Services employees continue to strike.
The strike continues as Local 25 Teamsters Union remains in negotiation with Republic. Malden is one of 16 communities who is affected by the service stoppage. According to the city, trash collection will resume on Monday, July 7. However, recycling will not be serviced until further notice. The city is offering drop-off dumpsters for recycling materials at Ferryway School on Cross Street. They will be available for use seven days per week from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Republic Services described its most recent rejected offer as “fair” and “competitive.”
