Malden Introduces New Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Coordinator

Kashawna Harling takes over the post after serving as Malden's Career Services coordinator.

MALDEN, MA — The City of Malden has announced that Kashawna Harling has been named the city's new Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Coordinator.

Harling has been employed by the City as the Career Services coordinator, where she employed 350 youth, implemented work programs for seniors and initiated additional programs, workshops and informational activities to help residents find jobs.

According to City officials, Harling has experience working with people from diverse backgrounds, has developed strategies to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion, and has shown an ability to identify the needs of community members and advocate for resources.

"Kashawna has been an asset to our team over the last few years and I am excited to work with her as our DEI Coordinator," Malden Mayor Gary Christenson said.

Christenson continued: "There were several applicants for the role, but Kashawna's experience, knowledge of city government, and approachable personality made her the ideal candidate for our community. She will play a critical role in continuing the good work of her predecessor and increasing the focus on diversity, equity and inclusion both inside our organization and across the city."

Harling said she is honored and excited to serve as the city's new DEI coordinator.

"I am committed to building a more inclusive and equitable community for all residents," Harling said. "Together, we can foster a culture of respect, understanding, and acceptance. I look forward to working with the administration and the community to make positive changes for the betterment of our city."
