Malden Launches Inclusive Outdoor Initiative

The two-part program focuses on students and residents with disabilities.

MALDEN, MA — The public school district has partnered with The Great Malden Outdoors to launch an inclusive outdoor recreation program.

The first part of the initiative is described as an adaptive outdoor event series geared toward residents with special needs and disabilities. The program will be offered once through each of the next three months on Saturday, April 5, Sunday, May 4, and Sunday, June 1. It is slated to feature hiking on the Middlesex Falls Reservation and special equipment will be provided to deal with rocky or rooted trails. In addition, rock-climbing opportunities will be offered at Waitt’s Mountain, which is ADA accessible.

The second component of the program will be spearheaded by Friends of the Fells and the Malden Out of School Time afterschool program, in which afterschool hiking will expand from the Salemwood School to the Beebe School as well.
