Malden Marks July As Disability Pride Month

The city has recently emphasized being more accessible to people with disabilities.

MALDEN, MA — Mayor Gary Christenson announced that he has officially proclaimed the month of July as “Disability Pride Month” in Malden.

The new designation became official during a recent ceremony held by the city’s Disability Commission. Commission Chair Amanda Belles led the event in which she explained the significance of disability awareness and orchestrated a flag raising.

According to the city, Disability Pride Month aims to create an atmosphere of understanding, support, and respect for people of all abilities, while highlighting their exceptional talents and achievements across all spheres of life.

“We strive to cultivate a city where diversity and inclusion are celebrated, and everyone is treated with the respect and dignity they deserve,” Christenson said. “I continue to be grateful to Disability Commission Chair Amanda Belles for her advocacy and all the members of the Commission for their leadership in creating a more equitable and accessible city.”
