Malden Parks, Open Spaces Start To Reopen: Rules To Know
Here's what to know as the city begins its phased reopening of parks and open spaces.
MALDEN, MA – Malden started a phased reopening of parks and open spaces Monday, May 25. Areas are open to passive recreation, so residents are asked to limit activities that encourage groups to gather and make social distancing difficult to observe.
The following spaces are open to the public on a limited basis:
- Waitt's Mount

- Pine Banks Park
- Community Gardens (no groups over 10 in each garden section, see below)
- Macdonald Stadium (effective Tuesday, May 26) (number of people allowed at one time will be limited)
- Bike Path and Fellsmere Pond continue to be open to the public
There will be no use of the playgrounds or other equipment and no organized sports or picnicking at this time, officials said. Walking, hiking, biking, running, and activities such as yoga, tai chi, etc. are acceptable.
Face Coverings and Masks: All visitors to parks and open space, over the age of 2, must wear a face covering or mask when they cannot maintain six feet of distance between themselves and others.
Restrooms will not be open and visitors will be responsible for taking their trash and recycling with them when they leave. After visiting public spaces, users should always wash their hands or use hand sanitizer.
Rules for visiting the Community Gardens:
1. No groups of over 10 people in each garden section.
2. All participants must wear a face covering.
3. Wash and/or sanitize your hands in the event they are sharing tools or other items.
In addition, all shared items (hoses, faucets) and tools must be sanitized after each use with
a bleach solution provided by the community garden.
4. All trash and recycling must be taken with you when you leave.
5. Practice social distancing. Maintain a six-foot distance from others.
