Malden PD HQ To Serve As National Take Back Day Collection Site

The event encourages the public to dispose of any unwanted, unused or expired prescription medications from the home.

MALDEN, MA — The Malden Police Department is participating in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day this weekend.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Malden PD headquarters, located at 800 Eastern Ave., officers will be collecting old prescription medications.

The event is sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), which encourages residents to dispose of any unwanted, unused or expired prescription medications from the home in order to prevent medication misuse and reduce opioid addiction.

"The drug overdose epidemic in the United States is a clear and present public health, public safety, and national security threat," DEA said in a statement. "National Prescription Drug Take Back Day reflects DEA's commitment to Americans' safety and health."

The statement continued: "DEA is committed to making our communities safer and healthier, and we can do this by reducing overdoses and overdose deaths."
