Malden Police Mourn Death Of Former Chief

MALDEN, MA — The police department announced the death of a former Chief on Thursday.
James Holland died on Wednesday, Sept. 17.

Holland spent nearly 40 years serving the city of Malden as a police officer until his retirement in 2013. He spent his final three years in the well-earned position of Chief of Police.

“He devoted his life to protecting and serving the people of Malden,” the department said in a statement. “His leadership, integrity, and unwavering commitment to the community will never be forgotten.”

Holland recently served as the Malden representative for the Northeast Metropolitan Regional Vocational High School's School Committee. His family history is deeply rooted in public service, as his father was also a Malden police officer and his brother, Dr. George Holland, served as Superintendent of Schools for 16 years.

Memorial service details have yet to be revealed.
