Malden Police Mourn The Death Of Former Sergeant
Mark Mullaney served the department for nearly 40 years.

MALDEN, MA — Retried Malden Police Sergeant Detective Mark Mullaney died on Sunday, May 11 at the age of 75, the department announced.
Before joining the police force, the Malden native served in the Army during the Vietnam War as a Military Policeman. His 38-year career with the Malden Police Department began in 1974. The department named his time in the Criminal Investigations Division as perhaps the most notable part of Mullaney’s career as he contributed to solving complex and long-term cases.
“A man known for his wisdom, sharp wit, and unshakable integrity, Mark was someone whose words mattered — when he spoke, people listened,” the department said in a statement. “He lived by the motto “never be a quitter” and inspired those around him with his humility, strength, and humor.”

Beyond his career duties and accomplishments, the department described Mullaney as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend who enjoyed going to the beaches and lakes of Florida in the winter.
“Sgt. Mullaney will forever be remembered not only for his outstanding service to the City of Malden,” the department said.
