Malden Remembers Slain Police Officer Edward Callahan
Callahan was fatally shot during a robbery in 1963. The Malden Police Department hosted his widow at a remembrance ceremony Wednesday.

MALDEN, MA β Malden remembered slain police officer Edward Callahan on the anniversary of his death. Callahan and his partner were shot on Sept. 14, 1963 while responding to a robbery at a market on the corner of Pleasant and Pearl Streets. Callahan succumbed to his injuries on Sept. 16; his partner was seriously wounded.
The suspect was arrested in Maine several days after the shooting.
The department hosted Callahan's widow, Mimi, and her grandson, Malden Police Officer Joshua Redmond, who wears Callahan's badge number 57, at a remembrance ceremony Wednesday. The memorial to Officer Callahan is located near the site of the shooting.
