Malden Woman Killed By Estranged Husband In Murder/Suicide In Wakefield

A murder/suicide - in which a husband allegedly killed his estranged wife and jumped out of a building - occurred in Wakefield on Sunday.

A statement from the District Attorney’s office says Daniel Burns, 42, of Wakefield, repeatedly stabbed Christine Giordano, 45, of Malden, then committed suicide via leaping from the ninth story window of 95 Audubon Rd.

Giordano managed to make it down to the lobby of the building before passing at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center.

Burns had two restraining orders out in Middlesex County, though neither pertained to Giordano.

“This appears to be a terrible act of domestic violence. We are working very closely with our partners in the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office to conduct a full and thorough investigation,” said Wakefield Chief of Police Richard Smith.

“On behalf of the entire community, my heartfelt condolences go out to the victim’s family. Domestic violence is a horrible thing and we will do all that we can to investigate this act and work to prevent such tragedies in the future.”
