Malden's Markey Denounces Trump's Jan.6 Pardons
The Senator vehemently opposes the decision by the president to issue the pardons.

MALDEN, MA — Sen. Ed Markey (D, Massachusetts) spoke in opposition to President Donald Trump’s pardons for people involved in the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021. He and other Democrats crafted a resolution that condemns the actions taken by the president.
Last week, Trump pardoned approximately 1,500 people who were charged or convicted of federal offenses related to the event. Markey described the pardonings as a disgraceful insult to law enforcement and democracy.
“I’m astounded by the silence among my Republican colleagues. They claim to ‘back the blue’ but now they laud the violent criminals who left our officers black and blue on January 6,” Markey said. “We now know that the Republican party is no longer the party of ‘law and order,’ but the party of ‘chaos and disorder.’ Donald Trump’s pardons are a dangerous and shameful abuse of presidential power. We should all be united in denouncing them.”
