Over $7K Raised For Looted Malden Business

A clothing and shoe shop on Lebanon Street was looted early Monday, causing thousands of dollars in stolen goods and damages.

MALDEN, MA — A Malden clothing, shoe and consignment shop was vandalized and looted early Monday as demonstrations in Boston turned violent. Police told Boston 25 the break-in at Laa Tiendaa on Lebanon Street is believed to be an isolated incident.

Owners Gabriel Toribio and Jezmani Kraus responded to the business after someone threw a chunk of asphalt through the glass door and triggered the security alarm, the network reported. They boarded the storefront up, only to have looters return, break through the boards and ransack the shop.

Looters cost the business between $8,000 and $10,000 in damages and stolen goods. A GoFundMe campaign for the shop raised more than $7,000 as of Friday afternoon.

The business has to get a new security system before it reopens, but Toribio told Boston 25 the community support has been "beautiful."
