New Police Officer Fluent in American Sign Language
City's newest police officer is a graduate of Malden High School.

Mayor Gary Christenson, Police Commissioner Salvatore “Butch” Gennetti, Police Chief Kevin Molis and Captain Glenn Cronin recently welcomed Malden’s newest police officer.
Charles Washington, having recently completed his training at the Randolph Police Academy, was sworn in during a ceremony at the police station. A graduate of Malden High School, Charles is a member of they Army National Guard and has served two tours of duty in Afghanistan. Significantly, Charles is the first officer in Malden to be fluent in American Sign Language, according to city officials.

Officer Washington will now begin his field training program as an Officer.
“Having an officer fluent in American Sign Language most definitely adds to our ability to communicate with all residents,” said Mayor Gary Christenson. “I’m very pleased to welcome Officer Washington to the Department.”
