An hours-long standoff on Woodland Avenue culminated in officers shooting the suspect after he charged at them, authorities said.

EVERETT, MA — An hours-long standoff in Everett ended in police shooting the suspect Wednesday, the Middlesex District Attorney's office said. The 47-year-old man survived and was taken to a Boston hospital for treatment. Two officers were also brought to the hospital for evaluation.

Police were called to Woodland Avenue home around 10:45 a.m. for a reported altercation between two people who know each other, the DA's office said. Officers entered the home and found a man had what appeared to be a gun, the DA said.

Police attempted to negotiate with the man throughout the day and get him to leave the home. After several hours, officers used pepper spray on the man, who attempted to flee the home while still holding what was believed to be a gun, the DA said. Officers again tried to hit him with less lethal munition as he charged at them in the doorway, the DA said.
