Suspect Arrested In Connection With Shooting Outside Malden Pizza Shop

Officers responded to New York Pizza at 421 Main Street just before 3 p.m. Sunday for a reported shooting, police say.

MALDEN, MA — One person has been arrested in connection with a shooting outside a Malden pizza shop Sunday afternoon that left one person hospitalized, according to police.

Officers responded to New York Pizza at 421 Main Street just before 3 p.m. Sunday for a reported shooting, police say. Upon arrival, witnesses told police an individual walked into the municipal parking lot while wearing a hood and ski-mask disguise.

Police say the suspect purposely pursued the victim, firing four to five shots and striking the victim. The victim left the scene and went to a local hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.

Later that night at approximately 11:45 p.m., police say they arrested Jefferson Barillas for the shooting after "a thorough and comprehensive investigation."

“It was through the extraordinary efforts of our police officers, detectives, and eyewitnesses, that we were able to apprehend the individual responsible for the recent shooting that took place in our community," Malden Police Chief Glenn Cronin said in a statement.
