VIDEO: Beebe School Butterfly Garden Gets Annual Cleanup

Second graders learn first hand about butterflies.

Second graders at the , along with their teachers and parents, worked Monday to clean up the school's butterfly garden along Pleasant Street.

The annual cleanup involves spreading mulch and planting new flowers. Kim Kezer from Zoo New England oversaw the efforts as one class at a time pulled weeds, spread mulch and planted new flowers.

Each year second grade students at the school take care of caterpillars inside the classroom and watch as they build cocoons and then emerge as butterflies.

Earlier this month the students released those butterflies in the garden, which contains plants that attract the brightly colored insects.
