West Nile Virus Case Confirmed In Malden

The DPH has raised the risk level to moderate in Malden and the surrounding communities.

MALDEN, MA — A positive case of the West Nile Virus has been confirmed in Malden, according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. The city was notified Monday and will trap and test a mosquito pool collection from the Medford Street area near Devir Park.

The DPH has raised the risk level to moderate in Malden, Chelsea, Everett, Lynn, Melrose, Revere, Saugus and Winthrop. Residents are advised to protect themselves from mosquito bites by limiting outdoor activity between dusk and dawn, wearing long-sleeved clothes when participating in outdoor activities and using mosquito repellent that contains the chemical DEET.

Additional precautions include making sure that window and door screens do not have holes in them and removing standing water from the property.
