2. On May 18, the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women honored its list of 100 “Unsung Heroines” of 2011 in a ceremony at the Massachusetts State House. The event recognizes women whose contributions to the community are often overlooked. Among those honored was Diane Brooks Ring, Director of , a furniture and household goods donation program of Employment Options, Inc. in Marlborough.
3. With Memorial Day approaching, the thoughts of many Americans turn to our servicemen and women, as well as their families. Since members of the military protect us at home and abroad, Better Business Bureau here in Marlborough wants to protect them against con artists and scams. Be aware that Servicemen and women are being targeted through high price military loans, veterans benefit buyout plans, fake rental properties, phony jury duty summons, misleading car sales and phony life insurance plans. 4. The have announced that they will hold their first commencement ceremony Sunday, June 12, 2011. The ceremony will begin promptly at 2 p.m. at the Worcester Technical High School. Look to Marlborough Patch for photo coverage of the event.
5. Laurie and Roy Whitten, of Marlborough, are joining people from around the country to raise a united voice in the fight against brain tumors. The Whittens are taking part in the inaugural New York Brain Tumor Walk, one of the nine walks that take place throughout the year to raise brain tumor awareness and essential funds for research and patient services through the National Brain Tumor Society. The 5K walk in New York will take place on Saturday, June 18 on Governors Island.
