The grocery chain said it will close its doors in mid-September.

MARLBOROUGH, MA — Hannaford is closing one of its Massachusetts locations, and many of its employees could be out of a job in September.

The New England-based supermarket chain is closing its Marlborough location.

A Hannaford spokesperson said the decision was not theirs. The company was not given the opportunity to renew its lease at Boston Post Road West.

Hannaford said the store will remain open and fully operational until September 2.

Last week, the grocery chain submitted a notice to the state saying that 160 workers will be affected by the store’s closing, with an effective date of September 13. But not all employees will be out of a job, according to the chain.

“We’re offering opportunities for all Marlborough store associates to take jobs at other local stores, and will make every effort to transfer them," a Hannaford spokesperson wrote in a statement. "We’re also partnering with the Masshire Rapid Response team to support those in further need of employment assistance."

The Marlborough location is one of Hannaford’s 16 stores in the state. There are others in Waltham, Leominster and Clinton, among other areas.

Shaw’s supermarket is reportedly moving into the space.
