MARLBOROUGH, MA — This spring, a few new businesses will bloom in downtown Marlborough.

Officials are targeting May to launch a new downtown program aimed at activating the space along Weed Street behind City Hall. Marlborough received a $35,000 grant earlier this year from the state Office of Business Development to fund pop-up retail sheds downtown.

Local small businesses that may typically operate online or out of homes will get to use the sheds through October to sell their wares.

"We are consistently hearing from unique retailers that would love to open a business in downtown Marlborough but there isn’t much opportunity in terms of available space” said Marlborough Economic Development Corp. Executive Director Meredith Harris said in a news release. "Additionally, this project will attract visitors to our downtown area and bring
increased foot traffic to support the small businesses that are currently located here."

Harris confirmed this week that May is still the target date for opening the sheds behind city hall and Lost Shoe near the corner of Weed and Court streets. The sheds will operate alongside the Marlborough Farmers Market.
