Marlborough's WMCT-TV Seeks Students To Serve As 'Junior Reporters'

The local access channel is looking for middle school-aged local students to get hands-on experience in broadcast journalism.

MARLBOROUGH, MA — Local students who have dreams of a career in broadcast journalism have an opportunity to get started now. Marlborough's WMCT-TV is looking for middle school students to serve as junior reporters for the community station, which covers sports, government and local events in Marlborough.

Marlborough middle school aged students are invited to audition for an exciting new television program produced by WMCT-TV called "Marlborough Junior Reporters." This is a fantastic opportunity for local youth to learn about TV production from the inside out.

From the auditions, we are looking for inquisitive young people with a point of view. By becoming a Marlborough Junior Reporter, students will be guided to develop skills in journalism, gain self-confidence, improve public speaking abilities, and learn alongside ambitious peers.

This brand new show is still in development but will include talk show segments where reporters interview interesting community members, original segments on fun facts, and possibly some educational content exploring science, the environment, and more. Marlborough Junior Reporters will air on cable television and also stream online.

The program will be conceived and directed by WMCT's Zach Benton. The time commitment for selected students is 1-2 weekday evenings per month with a tentative first studio taping on Thursday October 19th.

Auditions will be held on Thursday, September 28th between 5:30PM-8:30PM at the WMCT-TV studios located at 91 Main St., 2nd Floor in the old fire station. Young people auditioning will be asked to read from a short script and and have a quick chat with a show producer. Auditions will be filmed. A parent or guardian must be in attendance to sign media permission forms and important contact information. At this time, this opportunity is only open to young people who reside in Marlborough, Massachusetts.
