'The Rock' is Boston Strong

A fresh coat of paint has transformed a local landmark, "The Rock," into a tribute to Boston.

A group of volunteers descended on "the rock" Sunday and turned the local landmark into a tribute Boston following the Boston Marathon bombing.

“We’re all trying to find answers to what happened on Monday," said Bruce Caissie who manages a Facebook page devoted to the paintings that appear on the local icon. “It may finish in Boston but it affects the whole area.”

Cassie and a group of area residents repainted the rock Sunday, adopting a take on the Boston Strong motto that has been adopted by the city and those supporting it in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombing.

The surface of the rock will change again, said Caissie, but the process itself is important for those involved. The catalog of photos on the Facebook page keeps a record of the changes to the stone, which has been a location for tributes an a place to play out local school rivalries through the years.
