Virginia/Washington DC Earthquake Felt in Marlborough

A 5.8 magnitude earthquake was felt up and down the east coast Tuesday afternoon.

The 5.8 magnitude earthquake centered in Mineral, VA could be felt in Marlborough, said residents on Tuesday afternoon. 

According to one person on the scene, a power outage occurred shortly after 2 p.m. on Hayes Memorial Drive, while residents in other parts of the city said they could also feel the tremors. 

Several people on Main Street Marlborough, however, said they were not affected by the quake and didn't realize it had even happened.

As of this post, the was not available for comment, and the dispatch line had not received any reports of damage or injury, but were aware of the situation and were watching closely. 

The Massachusetts State Police issued a statement at 2:30 p.m. saying there had been no reports of serious damage or injury.

"We have received no reports of injuries or significant structural damage from any of the emergency callers," said a release. "Our dispatchers are advising callers about the earthquake, which was centered in Virginia, and checking to ensure they are not injured. We will update further if we receive reports of any injuries or structural damage."

While there no injuries reported, police in Framingham said they felt the earthquake.

"Numerous employees in State Police General Headquarters in Framingham felt the tremors. Some employees felt more comfortable exiting the building and did so, but there was no official evacuation," said the release.
