Cape Cod Firefighters Trapped Fighting Blaze
A crew of Bourne firefighters became trapped at the scene of a oil burner fire in Sagamore Beach.

BOURNE, MA — One person was injured and several firefighters were temporarily trapped during a fire in Bourne Thursday night. The fire broke out near an oil burner at a residence on Noreast Drive in Sagamore Beach at about 7 p.m.
"While the first crew was searching for the fire in the basement, conditions worsened and the crew became trapped," Bourne Deputy fire Chief David Pelonzi said in a statement. "With heavy fire, high temperatures, and no visibility, the crew called for a mayday."
Within minutes, the firefighters found their way out safe, Pelonzi said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation. The fire rendered the home uninhabitable. The resident who was hurt suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening, Pelonzi said.
