  Ruby Green, a fourth grader at Columbus School helped raise money to buy a set of animal oxygen masks as a citizenship project. The masks would be donated to the Fire Department, and would be used to aide dogs or cats overcome by smoke inhalation.

: Medford Post 45 opened up its playoff campaign with a 9-3 win over Concord in the opening round of the double elimination Chairman’s Cup tournament, but fell to top seed Billerica 10-9 in the second round.

One of Davis Square's most popular bars and restaurants, , was evacuated due to a fire Friday afternoon. The fire started suddenly in the exterior wall of the restaurant, near the front entrance, at about 4:35 p.m. By 5 p.m., the Somerville Fire Department had the fire under control, according to Somerville Fire Chief Kevin Kelleher, who was at the scene. At that time, firefighters were still in the building searching for other hot spots.
