A Fire; A Found Grenade, A Polititian Sentencing on Corruption Charge

Good morning, here's five things to know today:

A state bomb squad was called to Central Avenue Wednesday night when a relative going through the belongings of a man who recently died found a grenade. It was quickly determined to be inactive and the scene cleared.

Medford firefighters responded to a two alarm house fire Wednesday at 41 Sturges St. The fire, in an occupied 2 1/2 story residential home, was quickly brought under control with in 30 minutes of the arrival of firefighters on scene.

DiMasi Sentencing Today: Former Massachusetts Speaker of the House Salvatore DiMasi is slated to be sentenced today on public corruption charges after a jury found him guilty of accepting bribes in exchange for state contracts for software. DiMasi faces up to 24 years in federal prison, but pleaded with Judge Mark Wolf for leniency in the first day of the sentencing hearing yesterday.

"I appear before you today a broken man,’’ DiMasi told Chief US District Court Judge Mark L. Wolf, according to Boston.com. “I have lost everything I have worked so hard for in my life…They say the road to hell is paved with good intentions. I don’t want to go to hell, and I certainly don’t want to go to prison.”
