City Will Take a Closer Look at Proposed Satellite Dish Ordinance

Ordinance calls for dishes to be placed in locations other than the front of the house, if possible.

A proposed ordinance that would restrict placement of satellite dishes on Medford homes was sent to a subcommittee for further discussion Tuesday, City Clerk Ed Finn said.

The proposed ordinance, brought forward by City Councilor Michael Marks, would allow dishes only to be placed on the front of homes if there are no other viable locations. The satellite service providers would have to sign a statement for the city's building department that the only possible location for the dish is the front of the home.

The proposal was brought before the council Tuesday night, where Marks offered to have it referred to the subcommittee on zoning for further review, Finn said Wednesday. That committee is headed by councilor Paul Camuso.
