Construction to Shut Riverside Ave; Schools to Get Solar Panels

Good morning, here's five things to know today:
Another weekend, another bridge to be replaced. The "93Fast14" project continues, as the bridge that carries I-93 southbound over Riverside Avenue in Medford will be replaced. Work begins on Friday, Aug. 5 at 7:45 p.m. and continues through Monday, Aug. 8 at 5 a.m. The construction will narrow I-93 to two lanes each way from Exit 28 in Somerville to Exit 36 in Stoneham and will close Riverside Avenue under I-93.
Schools in Medford are already home to a wind turbine, now there are plans to bring solar panels to elementary and middle schools, Mayor Michael McGlynn announced at a recent school committee meeting. The panels project to save the district $50,000 in energy costs next year and $1.1 million over 20 years, McGlynn said.

Law Enforcement Puts on Hoops Tourney: Law enforcement officials, teens and youth service workers will come together in Somerville Saturday for the Metro Mayors Basketball Tournament. Teams from Somerville, Cambridge, Chelsea, Everett, Malden, Medford, Quincy and Revere will be in town for a five-on-five tournament. In addition to some serious basketball, there will be lunch, a dance show and a three-point contest. The tournament takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at . The rain location is the .
