Councilor to Request Discussion on Nearby Casino
Medford would be designated as a "surrounding community" if a casino is built in Everett.

Medford City Councilor Breanna Lungo-Koehn wants the city council to discuss the possibility of a casino being constructed "extremely close" to Medford.
Lungo-Koehn's resolution is on the agenda for tonight's meeting, which will start at 7 in the Howard F. Alden Auditorium at Medford City Hall. You can see the whole agenda here.
According to the resolution on the agenda, Lungo-Koehn wants to see the council meet with Medford Mayor Michael McGlynn at a potential committee of the whole meeting to discuss the matter.

Back in January, the council discussed the possibility of a casino being constructed in bordering Everett, with most expressing opposition to the idea.
Lungo-Koehn would like the council to "go on record stating that we are a 'surrounding community' because Medford will be negatively impacted," and as such, Medford would then "have to execute a 'surrounding community agreement with the developer.'"

In that event, Lungo-Koehn is resolving the council be kept apprised of negotiations including what kind of mitigation the city will receive as well as opportunities to give their input.
