Dirty Water: Utility Work May Cause Discolored Water in South Medford
Iron may cause discoloration in water.

Repairs to a water pipeline may result in discolored water in South Medford next week.
On Tuesday, February 22, 2011, work performed by the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority may cause discolored -- but drinkable -- water in the area bordered by Broadway, Willard Avenue and Mystic Avenue, according to a press release from MWRA spokesperson Ria Convery.
The discolored water may last for up to three days. The work isn't expected to impact water pressure.

The possible discoloration would be a result of a small amount of iron in the pipes. The water would be safe for drinking, cooking and other uses, but would stain light colored laundry, especially when bleach is used, according to the press release.
Residents should check water clarity before washing any white or lighter colored laundry, Convery said in the release.

This work is required to activate a newly rehabilitated water pipeline that serves Somerville and Medford.
