Election 2020: Medford Primary Voting Guide

Everything you need to know about early voting, mail-in voting and in-person voting for the Massachusetts state primary on Sept. 1.

MEDFORD, MA — The Massachusetts state primary is Tuesday, Sept. 1, but the election will be much different this year, thanks to the coronavirus. This year voters have the option of voting in-person on election day, as well as early voting and mail-in voting options.

The last day to register to vote for the Sept. 1 primary election was Saturday, Aug. 22. You can check your voting status on the Secretary of State's Website. You can also use the Website to find your polling place. If you missed the deadline to register to vote, make sure you register for future elections.

There are several ways residents can vote:

Mail-in Voting

If you requested a mail-in ballot, your ballot should already have been mailed to you. If you have not yet received the ballot, you can contact the Registrars of Voters at (781) 393-2491.* You can return the ballot by mail, by bringing it to City Hall, or by dropping your ballot into the City Hall Mail Drop Box outside of City Hall (Clippership Drive side entrance).

Due to an error, some ballots were mailed to voters without a yellow ballot envelope. If you did not receive a yellow envelope, DO NOT mail the ballot back. You can obtain a yellow envelope at the Greeter Desk at City Hall.

Early Voting

Early voting started Aug. 22 in the Alden Chambers at Medford City Hall, 85 George P. Hassett Drive. See the remaining schedule below:

  • Tuesday, August 25; 8:30 a.m.—4:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, August 26; 8:30 a.m.—7:30 p.m.
  • Thursday, August 27; 8:30 a.m.—4:30 p.m.
  • Friday, August 28; 8:30 a.m.—12:30 p.m.

In-Person Voting

You can visit your regular polling place on Sept. 1 between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. To find your polling location, CLICK HERE.

  • The polling location for Ward 3, Precinct 1 has changed. If you normally vote at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital, your NEW polling place is the American Legion Post at 321 Winthrop St.
  • If you vote in Ward 4, Precinct 1, please note that you will need to utilize the entrance at Cousens Gymnasium due to activity at Tufts University.

COVID-19 Requirements In Place

  • Voters, observers, and staff must wear face coverings. Face coverings must be worn over the nose and mouth.
  • Social distancing guidelines will be enforced while voters wait in line both inside and outside the polling place, as well as at voting booths.
  • Election staff will disinfect each voting both and pen after every use.
  • Election staff will be seated behind plexiglass barriers.
